Summer Bantam Update

Dear Bantam Parents, Players, and Friends:

I wanted to send along a letter to update you on our plans for the Bantam aged group (Birth Years 1997 and 1998) for the upcoming 2011-12 season.  As most of you are aware, for the past several seasons the Euclid Bantams have merged with the Cleveland Heights Bantam 2 team to form the Euclid Heights Bantam team.  While this partnership with the Heights program has been very successful in providing players from both teams the opportunity to continue participating in hockey with their friends it has been our goal at Euclid to bring a full time Euclid Bantam hockey team back home to EYHA.  Based upon all of the information that we currently have it appears that this upcoming season will be the year that EYHA will again field a full Bantam aged team.

Our current projections have a full team of between 11 and 14 players with a few additional interested players possibly waiting in the wings as well.  This year, our Bantam Head Coach will be Gary Jester.  Coach Jester led our Peewee team last season and will return with the Bantams for this upcoming season.   He has over 15 years of Hockey Coaching experience at a variety of levels from Mite through Juniors as well as serving in a variety of hockey capacities including Hockey Director for the Strongsville Youth Hockey Association in the early to Mid 2000's.

As some of you know, Coach Jester makes the commute in from Richfield for practices and games, which is not always the easiest thing to do. Therefore, we want to help him out by surrounding him with a strong staff that can help him when situations dictate the need for it.  While we have several people in mind, we could always use additional help.  Thus, we are searching searching for help in a variety of capacities including Assistant Coaches, a Team manager, and a Team Secretary for this season.  If you are interested in helping out with the team please contact me as soon as possible. Email or main phone, listed below, is generally the best way to let me know if you are interested in helping out.

Now to the ice !!  To help us prepare for the upcoming season and offer everyone a low cost option, addition, or alternative to the Summer Hockey Camps EYHA is moving forward with plans for the EYHA Summer Skills 2011.  Dates for the multiple session programs will be June 18, 19, 25, and 26 at the Gilmour Academy Ice Arena.  Final times will be released within the next few days but most likely will be in the morning on those dates.  EYHA reps will also be on-site for these sessions for 2011-12 player registration.  Costs for the program will be  $15.00 per session or $50.00 for all 4 sessions with a credit for the amount being paid applied towards fees for the 2011-12 season for those players who register with EYHA for the season.  In addition, all players will need to be registered with USA Hockey for the 2011-12 season in order to take the ice for these skills.  We are working on a way to handle the computer registration on-site but we are not completely certain we will be able to get a data line or wireless signal from Gilmour to do so.

Coach Jester will lead the bantam sessions, which will include approximately 1.25 hours of on-ice instruction; and 1 hour of off-ice instruction (open to both parents and players).  Topics for the off-ice sessions will include an Introduction to Cross Training and open forums where items such as team play and concepts, forechecks, defensive zone schemes, position specific skills, and much more will be discussed.  While not acting as a standard try-out, the Summer Skills sessions will act as catalyst in helping us to build the framework for the team in the fall.   Coach Jester may then continue some contact with the players through Mid to Late August when we will host a 1-2 week Pre-Season Conditioning and Evaluation Clinic with try-outs and final team designation.  All Bantam players are encouraged to register for the Summer Skills session and for the 2011-12 season as soon as possible to help us facilitate plans for the season.

As always, I thank you for your participation and continued support of the Euclid Youth Hockey Association both in the past and in the future.  I hope to meet with our prospective Bantams in the next month and discuss not only concerns that you may have but also ideas for the team and the program.    In the mean time if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.  I am looking forward to the 2011-12 season for the Bantams and for all of our EYHA teams.

With best regards,

Rick Kish
